Committment to the environment - Village Flottant Pressac

Village Flottant is committed to the environment !

Located in the Natura 2000 area, Village Flottant de Pressac was built and progressively expanded with respect for nature. Today, through the energy and materials used and its “reasoned” management method, it is a reference in terms of ecotourism.

Convinced that this concrete commitment to sustainable development is a necessity and that it must be strengthened without delay, Village Flottant de Pressac has decided to accelerate its proactive CSR policy around 4 major themes:

  1. Optimising the management of our resources: water, energy, waste and infrastructure equipment.
  2. Improving preservation of biodiversity, fauna and flora.
  3. Increasing our involvement in the local economic and social fabric: short supply chain and recruitment in the immediate employment area.
  4. Further developing of our role as an educational example in everyday diet : menus and products offered in catering.

FOR NATURE

ACTIONS IN THE CATERING :

1. Purchasing: priority given to short circuits and to seasonal and local products.

2. One day a week, the restaurant offers a menu with vegetable proteins, i.e. without meat or fish, in order to participate in the reduction of the exploitation of the oceans, and of the breeding of animals for meat, which largely contributes to global warming.

3. Seasonal products are displayed in the restaurant to inform the public, for educational purposes.

4. Creation of an herb garden

5. Meal baskets: provision of non-disposable crockery and cutlery

6. hut Grill: use of firelighters with natural components.

7. Kitchen and dining rooms: progressive use of risk-free cleaning products. 8. Installation of LED bulbs in the restaurant.

Our main local partners for the restaurant products are : Abattoir la SODEM in Le Vigeant for the lamb for the grill huts and the restaurant, Abattoir CDV in Confolens for the beef for the grill huts and the restaurant, Maison VAN BEERS in Availles Limouzine: eggs, Maison Gargouil in Charroux: apples, honey, Ets Nault in Availles limouzine: bread for the restaurant, EARL les Ecuries de Chadelas in Adriers: goat cheese, Maison Pezeau in Angoulême: Seafood wholesaler (2 to 3 deliveries per week), Brasserie de Bellefois de Neuville: home-made beer available in bottles at the bar from this season onwards, Cave La Tour Beaumont in Beaumont Saint-Cyr: Haut Poitou wines, CFP Gastronomie in La Roche Rigault: Caterer and cannery of local products (terrines to accompany aperitifs and lunch baskets), Sté RLM in Civray: beverage supplier

6. Putting up sorting bins (3 colours) around the pond, near the Capitainerie and the restaurant.

7. Setting up biological sorting bins for the restaurant’s kitchen: fruit & vegetables to make compost.

8. Putting in place ashtrays to collect cigarette butts, signaled by specific signs.

9. Progressive use of risk-free cleaning products.

10. Work and maintenance: local companies are favoured*.

11. Preferential local recruitment: more than 15 seasonal FTE recruitments each year in the immediate employment area (+/- 40 Kms from Village Flottant)

CMDM in Pressac: supply and maintenance of kitchen equipment, air-conditioning, STPR in Pleuville: development and maintenance of paths, earthworks, VF Service in Champniers: monitoring of sewage systems and emptying of septic tanks and dry toilets, GIRAUD in Savigné: works and maintenance and electricity and plumbing, BMP in Savigné: office supplies and related products, Cap Motoculture in Savigné: maintenance of electric carts, Garage Moreau in Pressac: maintenance of Village vehicles.

Projects :

  • Study for the installation of 2 electric bollards in the village car park.
  • Study for the implementation of shading systems

ACTIONS IN ACCOMMODATION :

1. Elimination of mineral water bottles and plastic glasses in the accommodation. Although heavier and more rigid, the Village Flottant now offers glass bottles of mineral water, as well as glasses for drinking.

Number of plastic bottles removed: over 6000 bottles (consumption 2019)

2. Elimination of non-biodegradable toilet paper:

Number of non-biodegradable rolls removed: over 10,000 rolls

3. No more systematic cleaning of unused sheets and towels

4. Lighting of the floating huts by solar energy (photovoltaic panel installed on the roof of each hut) and LED bulbs.

5. Use of dry toilets in the floating huts, with biodegradable bags. The whole thing is then used to make compost by VF Service.

Estimated number of litres of water saved: over 100,000 litres

2. Protection of the southern tail of the pond to promote a nesting area, in partnership with the Ligue Protectrice des Oiseaux

3. Removal of the 3 floating huts in the southern arm of the pond in 2017 to provide quiet resting places for both fish and birds.
